Sharjah's eco-friendly sky pods will transport people at 130kph

Sharjah's first high-speed electric sky pod would travel at 130kph, decreasing traffic congestion and enabling commuting more conveniently.

As per Oleg Zaretskiy, CEO of SkyWay Green Tech, the cost of creating the grid was equivalent to or less than that of installing new roads, and it required even less maintenance throughout time.

Due to various friction and strain, ropes and rolling wheels limit that format to moderate speeds. “This Unitsky String Technology is more akin to a train, with wheels traveling on a rail,” he explained.

“Since there is steel-to-steel friction, it consumes far less energy than cars.” It is a power-saving alternative, with an electronic motor powered in part by solar or wind energy.”

Belarus' Unitsky String Technologies is constructing a 2km suspended track at Sharjah Research, Technology, and Innovation Park.

The self-sustaining SkyWay system might be carrying its first passengers within weeks.

The company tried out the new track in May and stated that a 130km sky track from Sharjah to Khor Fakkan port could be functional for freight transit within three years.

The Sharjah government has agreed to fund the project.

The rail as a whole has a guaranteed lifespan of 100 years and is corrosion-resistant due to the encasing of eight pre-stressed wires inside a polymer solution to preserve it from severe conditions.

An ‘urban light' track can transport pods of up to 14 people at speeds of up to 150kph, while bigger carriages may transport people in 48 or 75 capacity pods at speeds of up to 500kph.

The travel time between Abu Dhabi and Dubai would be shortened to less than 20 minutes if such a track is constructed.

“Because the SkyWay system is much more flexible in route alignment, it is far less expensive,” officials stated.

SkyWay says that its operational expenses would be less than half of those of traditional train transit and one-third of those of developing and maintaining a similar-distance road.
